I was squadron superintendent of the 463rd AMS at Dyess AFB, Abilene,
TX, and this is the result of improperly troubleshooting a pressure leak on the APN-59
Search radar system. It happened on Saturday, January 18, 1975. A dropped wrench
across a couple of high amp terminals behind the co-pilot's circuit panel will do
it every time. The LOX system caught on fire, and then things went down hill from
there. Lockheed replaced everything forward of the wings on 7815, and it flew again
for a long time. Several people lost their jobs over this little mishap, from the
Wing Commander on down the line.
